Gladiatorial Basics

Post by admin »

To buy and sell Gladiators, you should have a Lanista on staff as a retinue. He allows you to buy/sell/train them, and gives you a cap of 10 Gladiators. He might keep the Gladiators at his own Domus, or part of your Domus.

To buy an additional 10, you need to invest in a Gladiator School, also known as a Ludus. Every 10,000 Spent on a Ludus gets you 10 more Gladiators.

Starting Fighting Strength

Base Gladiator with no training - 1
Base Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista - 2
Skilled Gladiator with no training - 4
Base Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista in Ludus - 4
Skilled Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista - 5
Skilled Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista in Ludus - 7

Chance of Death after a loss

Base Gladiator with no training - 50%
Base Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista - 25%
Skilled Gladiator with no training - 20%
Base Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista in Ludus - 15%
Skilled Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista - 10%
Skilled Gladiator with one year of training by Lanista in Ludus - 5%

How Gladiatorial Bouts Will Be Decided

Gladiator A Base Strength = Number of D6 die rolled
Gladiator B Base Strength = Number of D6 die rolled

Modifier for Wins = Number of wins this gladiator has is added to the total of his roll as a modifier.
Modifier for chance of Deaths = Per each win this gladiator has on his record - Base Chance - 10%. eg. 15% - 10% = 13.5%

Example Gladiator A = Base with Training by Lanista = Base Strength 2
Example Gladiator B = Base with Training by Lanista and Ludus = Base Strength 4

Gladiator A rolls 2 dice and gets a 4 and 5 = 9. He has won and survived 2 matches. His modified score would be 11.
Gladiator B rolls 4 dice and gets a 5, 1, 2, 2 = 10. He has yet to fight anyone so he has no modifier. His score would be 10.

Gladiator A wins and B loses. Gladiator B has a 15% chance of dying which means he needs to roll a 16-100 to live.

Gladiator B rolls a 33 which means he lives.

The Owner of Gladiator A likely wins some prize money and possibly Dignitas. The Owner of Gladiator B owns a bitch.
