Provincial Candidacies - 194 BC

Post by Gaius Cassius Vecellinus »

Conscript fathers,

Under an agreement with my fellow elected co-Consul, Titus Furius Pavo, I, Gaius Cassius Vecellinus, your plebeian Consul for the next consular year (194 BC), have the honor of announcing that those that are available serve the Republic as provincial governor in the quality of propraetor or proconsul, depending on background, may make their candidacies known below.

Such candidacies, proceduraly, may be as expansive as the candidates so desire but will, at a minimum, comply with the following requirements:
  • Name: [ENTER FULL NAME]
  • Applying for: [INSERT ROLE: Governor of Sicily | Governor of Sardinia | Governor of Hispania Citerior | Governor of Hispania Ulterior]
  • Objectives: [Write a single sentence or paragraph detailing your objectives during your year of governorship. Examples include, but aren't limited to, raising the revenue tranfers to Rome, start construction of a public works project, negotiate with the local tribes, reduce piracy, investigate corruption, etc., etc.]
Basic rules:
- One application per province.
- One candidate may submit several applications.

Provincial revenues on prior years:
Provinces / Year 196BC 195BC
Sicily 250,000 denarii 250,000 denarii
Sardinia 150,000 denarii 200,000 denarii
Hispania Citerior 508,750 denarii 324,000 denarii

Honorable Consul-elect Cassius Vecellinus,

I understand I may be speaking out of turn here, and this is not an application for a governorship, but I have a proposal just the same. I see the province for which I applied is also sought by good Fabius Maximus and also that both current Consuls seek governorships. Given that Furius Pavo has stated his intent to campaign against Sparta and you have stated your intent to manage Rome I offer my services to campaign in the north against the tribes of Cisalpine Gaul in lieu of a governorship if that is what you and your fellow Consul-elect should desire. Regardless I offer my services to Mother Rome however I may best perform my duties; governor, tribune or something else entirely.
