Decius Bellicus rises

"Conscript Fathers, I call on the Senate to approve funding to retain, if not expand, the current military resources in Hispania Ulterior. With the good work done by previous governors in Hispania Citerior, if we wish to look at ways to reduce costs, we could transfer those legions to Ulterior to continue pacification of the rebelling tribes there, which would open up new revenues for Rome."
He is a proconsul of Rome.

Conscript Fathers,

Surely good Bellicus has juxtaposed Ulterior and Citerior. For good Corbulo, whom this August body deemed worthy of prorogatio to finish his good works, dealt with the barbarian threat and proclaimed here and in the Rostra that Ulterior is pacified. Moments ago I asked good Bellicus what campaign there he was referring to and he said nothing, so he must have recognized he misspoke. For such a great military leader to so selflessly offer his legions for the good of Rome is truly admirable.

I cannot in good faith accept both legions and leave good Bellicus defenseless in a region so prone to revolt though, so I would ask we leave him with the Socii Ala so that he has men at hand for any unseen future threat.

Conscript Fathers,

Could we have an update from the former Hispania governors as to the situation in Hispania, at least as of when they were last there?

Conscript Fathers,

My good friend the propraetor-elect must have me confused with my former Consular peer, who was well known for his flights of fancy and irrational behavior. I do not misspeak. I do not bandy words. I conquer the enemies of Rome and bring Roman lands back under the control of the Republic.

Though...I must ask...if G. Qunctilius Varus thinks that Ulterior doesn't need additional legions, why did he use as the justification for his campaign for Ulterior with "Expand the public works and pacify the hinterlands"
He is a proconsul of Rome.

Varus rubbed his eyes like a tired, annoyed sea otter trying to remove brine from them before chuckling softly to himself.

Good Bellicus I apologize for mistaking your attempts at self-aggrandizement as benevolence. I shall try to avoid that error in the future.
