Allectus stands up when called upon by the Princeps Senatus to speak. He adjusts his toga before speaking.

Honorable and Triumphant Consul Valerius Marius,

Senators Furius Pavo, Caesonius Tacitus and myself have shown a clear interest to form a Roman diplomatic delegation to Carthage, I ask that the Senate vote to consider Furius Pavo as Diplomatic Legate to the Carthaginian Republic with myself and Caesonius Tacitus assigned as junior partners to Furius Pavo. Our combined efforts and staff will be enough to ascertain the intentions and capabilities of the Carthaginian state and its people. There is no doubt we will get to the truth of the matter with regards to Carthage’s action under the leadership of Hannibal Barca.

The Consul rose to speak once more

The consensus appears for Senators Furius Pavo as legate, Caesonius Tacitus and Fabius Maximus as junior partners, to be empowered by this august body for this just cause.

To the mission at hand, the Senate charges you with investigating the capabilities of this resurgent Carthaginian state. If Legate Furius Pavo determines that the new status quo is a threat to Roman interests and peace, he is charged to present to the Carthaginian senate that Hannibal must be remanded into Roman custody for the duration of the peace. The Legate is empowered to undertake any reasonable efforts to ensure the success of his mission, subject to review by our censor.

The above motion is presented for a vote.
