I thank you, honorable Romans, for sharing your voice in our Mother City this day! Your efforts have borne fruit, as additional funds have been ceremoniously pledged by Senator, Propraetor Post. Caesonius Tacitus and Senator M. Aurelius Cotta towards the necessary construction of the Emporium Romanum! I would ask the proxy for Senator Hostus Lucretius Tricipitinus to consult with his purse and to follow the generous examples of the Senators' proxies before and after him - to pledge an exact amount to this public works project. Seeing as though the sum of 65,000 Denarii was floated around, I ask the public to voice their approval of such a pledge by the generous Senator, Hostus Lucretius Tricipitinus - with the remainder going to the Aediles for use of other public endeavors.

Let it be known, dearest Romans, that generosity for public works is always encouraged and should be celebrated. If my words in the Senate, on behalf of the Propraetor, Senator M. Silvius Pastor, were not clear - or more likely, miscomprehended - let them be crystal now: public works are for the public, with any citizen able to show generosity! What was stated; however, to be cause for concern, is when such solicitation of funds occurs within the walls of the Senate as opposed to in such a public forum as this one!

“Citizens of Rome! It pleases me to announce that Senator Lucretius Tricipitinus will donate the 65,000 for additional works that will supplement the construction of the Emporium.

We should all give thanks to the many whom have donated to see Rome continue to prosper and grow! Senators Silvius Paster, Decius Bellicus, Caesonius Tacitus, Aurelius Cotta, Valerius Marius. And of course, Senator Lucretius Tricipitinus!

May all Citizens of Rome remember that we are Romans first and foremost, and politics should always take a back seat to the needs of Rome herself. Together, we can continue the work of our forefathers, expanding the greatest City in the world!”

The proxy delivered the news with the joy and energy expected of such an announcement but it’s worth noting he specifically stared down Aurelius Cotta when noting politics should take a back seat to the needs of Rome.

My fellow countrymen!

I, Gaius Claudius Nero, am here before you as a contender for Consul of the Republic. Over the last few years, our great Republic managed to repel the barbarian invaders from our lands in Bononia, Mutina, and Placentia, and with that, eradicated the last fragments of the barbaric Boii menace from our lands. However, a greater threat looms to our north, that of the Ligures. These brutes joined our great Punic rivals of Hannibal, Mago and Hasdrubal in razing our colonial city of Genua in 205BC. Barely five years after, they also helped the accursed Boii sack and destroy Placentia. The ruins of these towns, and the death of thousands of our fellow citizens, has remained ever since as a beacon to these barbarians that they can oppose the will of Rome. Well I say no longer. While Placentia has been avenged, I swear to you that should I be elected Consul, I will ensure that the Ligures face the consequences for sacking and burning Genua.

I served Rome during the Second Punic War in Hispania, repelling the Carthaginians and their allies from the region. Afterward, I served as Propraetor in Hispania Citerior in 196BC and ensured the rebellion by six Hispanian tribes was firmly put down, and avenged the late Praetor Gaius Sempronius Tuditanus. I now ask you, people of Rome, to grant me the opportunity once more to avenge our fellow countrymen that were slain in Genua.
