ABSTAINED

Amulius Valerius Marius
Gaius Quinctilius Varus
The Ayes have it, and the Bill passes. May the Gods look favourably on the Governors this year.

Moving on, our next item to discuss is troops to raise. After some discussion with my Co-Consul Domitius Corbulo, we have decided on two military campaigns, one in Liguria led by myself to avenge the Romans killed in Genua and Placentia as well as securing the Republic's northern border, and one in Hispania to pacify the Ilergetes and Turduli menace led by Consul Domitius Corbulo. On that note, I move to raise the standard 4 Consular Legions to combat readiness, maintaining the Veteran legion in Hispania Citerior as well as a further 4 Socii total, to accompany our armies. Raising two of the Socii legions from within Hispania Citerior itself will also circumvent the need to transport them over from Rome, so this will be pursued if possible.

With a large Consular army moving to Hispania, we feel there is no need to raise forces for the governors there unless necessary. Likewise, the troubles in Sardinia appear to be rectified by Senator Caesonius Tacitus, and I feel comfortable in allowing the Socii legion there to return home.

The total cost to raise the two Consular armies are as follows:
4 x Socii Legions (2 raised in Rome, 2 raised in Hispania Citerior)- 1,000,000 Denarii
1 x Veteran Legion maintained in Hispania Citerior at combat readiness - 892,280 Denarii
4 x Combat costs for Consular Legions - 800,000 Denarii
2 x Naval transportation costs - 200,000 Denarii

Total cost - 2,892,280 Denarii
I yield the floor to the Senate to begin debating.

Conscript fathers,

If we're going to maintain a veteran legion, shouldn't it be the one at hispania Ulterior since we're going to have a consular army in Hispania Citerior?

Consul Claudius Nero,

Would you be so kind as to display the breakdown of which legions will be attached to which Consul for their respective campaigns? I wish to understand the forces arrayed against these barbaric foes before I make any recommendations, should there be any discovered.
