Word has reached Rome of a victory over the Boii by the Consul Valerius Marius. Bononia and Mutina have been recaptured. Thousands of Barbarians have been taken captive and a train of booty trails the army on their return to Rome.

The Topic of this senate session is the awarding of a Triumph, and if so, the size and extravagance of it. What say the Senate?

The Consul has achieved many great victories for Rome this year. He has reclaimed Rome's lost lands and colonies in Bononia and Mutina, and eradicated the barbarians that had joined the Carthaginians only two decades ago during the Second Punic War. He has thus avenged our people when these same barbarians killed almost 25,000 Roman troops outside Ariminum and decapitated the Consul-elect Lucius Postumius Albinus. These lands will be opened to Roman colonisation once more due to his successes, and as such the Consul Valerius Marius deserves our upmost respect. Therefore I recommend we provide him a Medium Triumph to recognise the successes he has given to the Republic, and the opportunities we now have to expand Rome's cities and civilisation northward.

The Consul deserves a medium triumph for his actions.

It is not in our distant past that Gallic hordes came down and ravaged our fair City.

It has taken several generations but we are now in the position to threaten the Gallic homelands and take back what Brennus took from our forefathers and our Republic one hundred times over.

We shall make them regret the day those unwashed painted barbarians travelled south into Italia!
